Seaweed Biofilm
Seaweed Biofilm is an ongoing material exploration that transforms locally available seaweed into delicate, plant-based sheets. Developed through Becoming Algae, the research approaches material design as a process of observation and collaboration, allowing color, texture, flexibility, and decay to reveal the living character of the material.
The process moves from raw seaweed to powder, liquid, and cast specimens, producing translucent and flexible samples alongside wallets, earpieces, and artistic studies. Fading, mould, insect activity, and decomposition are documented as material behaviors, connecting the work to circularity, local seaweed livelihoods, impermanence, and collaboration with living systems.
